Komnas Perempuan is an independent National Commission, established in response to the demands of civil society (especially women) for the state to take responsibility in handling cases of violence against women, that promotes women’s human rights in Indonesia. Komnas Perempuan aims to strengthen services for women survivors of violence.

Urgent Responses Offered

Urgent appeals, international solidarity and communication strategies

Komnas Perempuan provides letters of support addressed to local authorities for WHRDs facing theats and supports appeals related to violations against WHRDS.

Advocacy with regional and international mechanisms

Komnas Perempuan submits reports to the UN Special Rapporteur and other Rapporteurs depending on the nature of the violation. They also support the development of ASEAN mechanisms on Human Rights.

Legal assistance and trial observation

Komnas Perempuan provides referrals and letters of support addressed to judiciary institutions.

Medical assistance, stress management and psychosocial counseling

Komnas Perempuan is currently developing a healing program for WHRDs, particularly those working in post-conflict and conflict situations.

Protective accompaniment; solidarity and monitoring visits

Komnas Perempuancan carries out monitoring visits and the Commissioners or Commission’s staff can travel to carry out a visit to verify the information received about a violation.
