The work of the Colombian Commission of Jurists is aimed at contributing to the development of international human rights law and international humanitarian law in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and the full force of the State social and democratic rule of law in Colombia. The commission maintains consultative status at the UN, a subsidiary of the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva, and the Andean Commission of Jurists in Lima.

Urgent appeals, international solidarity and communication strategies

CCJ produces appeals when defenders are under attack.

Advocacy with regional and international mechanisms

CCJ submits urgent appeals to the UN Special Rapportuer other UN special procedures and Inter-American mechanisms of protection depending on the nature of the violation. CCJ also works with UN treaty bodies, the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights and EU embassies and other institutions.

Legal assistance and trial observation

CCJ provides legal orientation. It also provides legal representation in some cases.

Temporary relocation and emergency hotline

CCJ is also part of the We Are Defenders Program (Programa Somos Defensores), a non-governmental initiative for the protection of defenders at risk. This initiative provides defenders, WHRDs and social leaders at risk the possibility to do fellowships and be temporarily relocated to different regions of the country or to other countries.
